Creek Bank

This past week I participated in the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, based in Atlanta Georgia. I had a wonderful time and am so grateful to the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, judges and fellow artists. The next few paintings were produced during that time, and are available via the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational online catalog. (To view the catalogue, click here.)

#21. On the Edge, 24″ x 12″ in oil, painted on location at Fish Creek, Polk County, GA.

Winning Weeds

#16. “Saved by the Mower”, en plein air, 12″ x 12″ in oil.

This was painted during the two-hour Olmsted Paint-Quick 2023 in Atlanta last Sunday morning. It placed first in the open division. These are the only images I have, as it sold at the event. They show the influence that lighting conditions make; the photographs are of the same painting! Neither is quite correct. The top lighter one shows more detail, but plays down tonal contrasts and makes some of the oranges too strong. The lower one dulls everything and blurs detail. So as the viewer, you will have to superimpose the two!
